Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
